Dave Van Ronk - Candy Man

Era a figura central, foi a inspiração e “deu uma força” pra vários artistas da cena folk e blues de raiz. Bob Dylan foi o principal, quando veio pra Nova York em 1961. Dave Van Ronk preferia a releitura dos blues/folks tradicionais, ao contrário de seus amigos Dylan ou Tom Paxton que queriam se aprimorar nas composições próprias. Fazia parte da “turma do folk- blues” que emergia nos 60’s, ao lado de Dylan, Paxton, Phil Ochs, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Joni Mitchell e outros, participando dos grandes festivais, como o de Newport. Especialista em fingerpicker, e como vocalista foi influenciado por Bing Crosby e Louis Armstrong. É interessante a história que Bob Dylan “tomou emprestado” seus arranjos de House of Rising Sun para gravar no seu primeiro disco. Dave não gostou muito, tiveram uma briguinha, mas logo já estavam cantando e bebendo juntos. Possui discos que surpreendem, com banda ou solitários lindos blues acústicos: emite vozes obscuras e uma rouquidão “anti-comercial”, mas também ecoa sons suaves e fáceis de se apaixonar.
